Create a new PDE Project

This section explains how to create a new PDE project.

Choose project type

After the installation of PDE has finished, you can start creating a PDE language by starting Visual Studio and clicking on File->New->Project and selecting PDE on the right side.

PDE Project templates

The projects you can create are:

  • A new PDE-based DSL (WPF Application)
This is a language that has a WPF application to edit its instances.
  • A new PDE-based DSL Library (WPF Library)
This is a language that can be referenced from different languages. This is primarly used in component based language development.
  • A new PDE-V-Modell XT Editor-based DSL (WPF Application)
This is a language that is specifically designed to support V-Modell XT Editor-based models. It also has a WPF application to edit its instances.
  • A new PDE-V-Modell XT Editor-based DSL (WPF Library)
Same as "A new PDE-based DSL Library" but with support for V-Modell XT Editor-based models.

The most common choice here is A new PDE-based DSL (WPF Application).

Project type options

After you have selected the project type and clicked on OK a wizard will ask you to enter general information about your language and further create a solution for the language.
