PDE V-Modell XT Editor - Analyzing the V-Modell

Error List

The error list displays errors, information or warning messages that were gathered during the validation process. Those messages contain a description and a source element, which is considered to be the error/information/warning source, and can denote missing property values, elements or relationships. Ablaufbausteine (procedure modules) are the subject of an advanced validation that e.g. validates if those procedure modules are cycle free.

Further, the user can filter errors, warnings or information messages in the error list, which is done via the context menu. This is useful for the V-Modell XT as there is an unwritten rule that whenever an element has a reference to a Textbaustein, the description property doesn’t need to have a value (even if it normally would be required). There is no support for such a rule in the V-Modell XT meta-model and the only way to get rid of such errors in the V-Modell XT Editor is to filter them. Filtered messages are hidden by default but can also be shown to the user. It is important to note, that filtered messages are stored model specific, there is no possibility to filter messages globally yet.

Dependencies View

The dependencies view is used to display dependencies for the selected element. There are four different categories of relationships such as

  • Referencing: The selected element references an element of a specific type. Therefore, the source element is equal to the selected element.
  • Referenced: The selected element is referenced by an element. The target element in the dependencies view entry is the selected element.
  • Embedding: The selected element embeds an element of a specific type. Therefore, the source element is equal to the selected element.
  • Embedded: The selected element is embedded by an element. The target element in the dependencies view entry is the selected element.

that can be either displayed or hidden by changing the state (toggled to show, normal to hide) of the corresponding buttons (see figure below). Each entry in the dependencies view consists of a type, source element, target element and a relationship type.
